Again, Africa calls.
The route, however, was somewhat circuitous. We went from Palm Desert, CA to Chicago to San Paulo, Brazil, and then straight across the ocean to Johannesburg. There we Walked with the Lions (nearby at Pretoria). This is a program where you get ‘hands on’ with the smaller ones.
From there we went to Capetown (beautiful city, somewhat like Vancouver and Sydney). After experiencing Capetown we toured the ‘Winelands’ and the Cape of Good Hope. Then onto the Great White Sharks! We were fortunate to have the same guide as the National Geographic special. ‘Up close & personal’ has special meaning with these unbelievable open ocean apex predators!
We then flew to Polokwane, S.A. and drove by road to Mashutu, Botswana. After a few days and numerous game drives, we flew from Limpopoto the Mala Mala airstrip in Sabi Sabi, where we were transferred to Rattray’s Camp.
After another few days of game drives etc., we flew back to ‘JoBurg’, then on to Mumbai, en route to Singapore.
In Singaporewe enjoyed the city, then embarked on the Cunard ‘Queen Elizabeth” for Dubai. One the way, we visited Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Columbo, and Mumbai. After a couple of days, we continued on to Muscat, Oman, then to Abu Dhabi for a few days and disembarked in Dubai. A few days later, we fly from Dubai to Singapore, then to Tokyo and back ‘home’ to Los Angeles & drove to Palm Desert.
